San Marcos La Laguna, Lake Atitlan Guatemala

San Marcos La Laguna is small town on Lake Atitlan inhabited by 3000 people in the department of Solola in the highlands of Guatemala. Though it has a year round population of around 200 foreigners, the Mayan residents are Kakchiquel speaking who have occupied this small valley for around three hundred years. These people are very friendly and welcome tourists to their town. Lake Atitlan, is 80 square miles at 5000 feet and was declared to be one of the most beautiful places in the world declared by Aldous Huxley.
San Marcos has a variety of hotels and houses to rent in all price ranges
and is known for its many alternative health practitioners and massage
therapists. The climate here typifies Guatemala’s reputation
for the “Land of Eternal Spring” having a daily temperature
of around 70 degrees Fahrenheit year round. Although rainy season
starts in June and goes through October, for most of this time we have
sun into the early afternoon. For those who love the sun, the dry
season gives us day after wonderful day and beautiful clear nights to
see the stars.
